Firstly I would like to say HAPPY NEW YEAR to all and sundry. It is officially 2015, and if you have your resolutions to start then you’d best get cracking! As for me, I didn’t have a resolution until around the middle of 2014. After repeatedly hearing about this current LNP government’s grand plans, changes, rip offs and disgusting inhumane acts in our media (murdoch, mainstream and Indy) and its intention to continue to do even worse to us this year (like it hasn’t already crapped on this great nation enough already) I am determined to do whatever I can to assist in whatever way I can to make sure that these assholes don’t continue to sit on easy street and remain in government.
What can you do I hear you ask (well ok, I can’t hear you but I know that’s what you’re wondering) and to answer your query, there are a number of things. The first thing is to find where and how I can help, like choosing a cause that’s currently being fought for (or choose a plethora of them with this government, either at a state or federal level) and then start. If you want to you can create a cause that is dear to your heart and start there. I have chosen a few and am going to focus on one at a time in regards to what I believe is their relevance.
I want to say I’m starting with the proposed new “initiatives” (rwnj lingo for rip offs) to our university students, however I am going to start with asylum seekers and the folks that are currently locked up in Aussie detention centers offshore. It’s like this government couldn’t insult and devalue human life anymore so they thought ‘oh I know! let’s put them offshore just to add insult to the obviously current injury and hardship they’re facing. Also they’ll be off our soil and you know what they say chaps, out of sight out of mind’! So, how’s THAT going for you LNP? Are they out of mind? The nation says ‘hell no’ and wants something done about it.
We have some wonderful human rights activists, lawyers, and even some politicians that are currently voicing their opposition to the continued detention of these poor folks, and let’s be honest, they ARE poor folks. They are NOT a threat to our culture or country like our current government would love us to believe. We are, after all, supposed to be this big multicultural nation that others in their time of need can turn to and come to escape the wars (civil or otherwise) or horrific conditions and live in peace and unity. So what the hell happened I hear you ask? Ask the current LNP government and it’s incredibly inept leader Tony Abbott and his henchman Scott Morrison. We are now jailing people for trying to get our assistance. This HAS to end.
Unfortunately, our despot of a leader has decided that Peter Dutton (yes that Peter Dutton, the one that does great brussels sprout impersonations and used to be a cop) is now going to be in charge of that portfolio. This fact scares the hell out of me as he is desperate to make a name for himself within the LNP. We have seen how that worked for Morrison, and look where he is now! Morrison got to his current status by manipulating and terrorizing asylum seekers in detention and climbed on the backs of these people to rise higher in the party. Pure and simple. So what do you think dear Mr Dutton will have in store for them?
Mr Dutton had better have a good long hard look at the real priorities these people have in his new portfolio, the hardships they are facing and that will get worse the longer they are locked up, and the fact that their basic fundamental human rights are non-existent. If they remain in detention we shall have a generation of innocents that will be brought up believing that prison is natural. No child should ever be treated this way. This IS a serious issue and we NEED to address this as a nation to Mr Dutton as soon as possible.
It only takes one person to start something, and only one voice to be heard by another to create a chain reaction and thus creating change. And I do want change. And I’m not the only one out there. So, when do we start Australia? Je suis prest , are you?
Until next time, be good to each other.
Comrade Mumma Bear.
